Melanie Dekker is a Canadian roots musician and singer-songwriter from Deep Cove, BC. Her musical journey began in high school, inspired by a classmate’s rendition of “The Power of Love.” Earnings from her North Vancouver paper route funded her first K. Yairi guitar, and a university scholarship allowed her to purchase her first piano.

Armed with a music diploma from Capilano University’s Jazz & Pop Program, Dekker performed extensively across BC and Alberta. Vocal nodules forced a hiatus, during which she focused on songwriting. After hundreds of lessons, she began performing original Canadiana, gaining a loyal following.

In 2003, her song “I Said I” became a radio hit, leading her to Nashville and LA. Upon returning to Vancouver, she dedicated herself to music, supported by positive press and enthusiastic fans. Her discography now includes 11 albums, with recent releases like “The New Old Fashioned Way” (2020) and “Barnstormer, Take One.”

One of her favourite collections, “Lekker Eh” (2015), features live recordings with the late guitarist David Sinclair. Career highlights include opening for Bryan Adams, Diana Krall, Faith Hill, and Russell Peters, as well as performing for President Bill Clinton. She received the Medal of Honour from Canada’s Chief of Defence Staff for “Wounded Soldier (Fall In)” and her 2009 concerts in Afghanistan. She also serves as an Ambassador for the Kinder Hospiz in Germany.

Dekker’s music is known for its ‘feel-good’ concerts, resonating with audiences through heartfelt lyrics and melodies that reflect the human experience.
